Billy Sunday
William Ashley “Billy” Sunday (1862–1935) was an American evangelist and former professional baseball player. Born in Iowa, he played in Major League Baseball as an outfielder during the 1880s, including time with the Chicago White Stockings and the Pittsburgh Alleghenys. After leaving baseball, he became a prominent Protestant revivalist, known for energetic preaching and large-scale campaigns across the United States in the early 20th century. Sunday was associated with the temperance movement and was a vocal supporter of Prohibition. His sermons, delivered in tabernacle meetings and widely reported in the press, made him one of the best-known evangelists of his era.
