Dale Carnegie

Dale Carnegie was born into poverty on a farm in rural Missouri in 1888. Despite having to get up at 4 a.m. every day to milk the family’s cows, Carnegie was able to obtain an education at the University of Central Missouri while still in his teens. After graduation, Carnegie eventually moved to New York City. He got the idea to teach public speaking, creating the popular Dale Carnegie Course. He later formed the Dale Carnegie Institute to teach leadership skills. Carnegie also published books on public speaking and leadership, including the bestselling How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936).
