John F. Kennedy

Kennedy grew up in Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut. He attended Harvard College, graduating in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science cum laude in international affairs. Kennedy joined the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving heroically in the Pacific Theater. A Democrat, JFK served in both houses of Congress for a total of 13 years. He married his wife Jacqueline during this time. He became the 35th U.S. President in 1961. As president, JFK was known for his inspiring speeches and for furthering the Civil Rights movement. He also wanted to stop the growth of communism. Almost three years into his first term, on November 22, 1963, JFK was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald.
