Mae Jemison

Mae C. Jemison (born 1956) is an American physician, engineer, and former NASA astronaut. Trained in medicine and engineering, she was selected as a NASA astronaut in 1987. In 1992 she flew aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour on mission STS-47, becoming the first Black woman to travel in space. After leaving NASA, Jemison founded organizations focused on science, technology, and education, and has worked to expand public engagement with STEM fields. She has also served in academic and advisory roles, advocating for innovation and inclusive participation in scientific research. Jemison remains a prominent voice on space exploration and the future of human potential.
