Marcel Proust
Marcel Proust (1871–1922) was a French novelist, essayist, and critic, widely regarded as one of the major writers of modern literature. Born in Paris, he studied at the Lycée Condorcet and later at the Sorbonne. Proust is best known for his seven-volume novel *À la recherche du temps perdu* (*In Search of Lost Time*), published between 1913 and 1927, which explores memory, time, art, and social life in late 19th- and early 20th-century France. The second volume, *À l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs*, won the Prix Goncourt in 1919. He died in Paris in 1922.
