Robert Edward “Ted” Turner III (born 1938) is an American media entrepreneur best known for founding CNN, the first 24-hour cable news network, in 1980. He built Turner Broadcasting System into a major force in television, expanding cable programming through channels such as TBS and TNT. Turner also owned the Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Atlanta Hawks basketball team, and he helped bring the 1996 Summer Olympics to Atlanta.
