    Great quotes, thanks!

  3. BarkingToad says:

Great quotes, although the one you have as number one makes me sad. It’s not only wrong, it’s also an empty comfort rather than an inspiration. Our actions define us, not some elusive “inside quality”. The whole point is that we can only change who we are, become who we want to be, in the ever elusive instant that is right *NOW*.

    • Louise McReynolds says:

I disagree! I have gone through many struggles & at 56 am still struggling to overcome huge obstacles in my path when, once having been very wealthy (24 clothing stores in South Africa), husband passed away, now living in the U.S. with my 2 sons, one ending up on drugs & at my age having to resort to awful telemarketing jobs because America is about to collapse, yet my family & friends will tell you that i am their inspiration when they feel their issues are insurmountable!!! So, it absolutely DID come down to “WHO i am” that helped me still stand tall, proud & STRONG AGAINST…trust me…ALL ODDS! I live in a rented ROOM & have no car. I had four bedroom homes, acre of land, kids in private schools, only Mercedes & BMWs for cars…to this…NOTHING.

Thank you for telling your story. You are a very strong woman.
I hope things turn around for you. Also I hope

        you. xxx

He is such a beautiful spirit that I have no doubt he’ll get there. He is determined to fight this heroin addiction that has taken so many wonderful souls & that is what i hold onto right now. God blessed me with not one, but two amazing sons & whilst one is doing well emotionally, after the U.S. Govt blocked me from entering the U.S. when i was in So Africa visiting my family for 2 mnths when my husband passed away leaving our 2 sons of 17/19 to sink or swim here in the U.S. alone with no family to speak of because i was on my husband’s visa so i was not permitted to re-enter & console my sons & attend my husband’s funeral. Sadly my younger one couldnt deal with the death of his father that was his best friend & his mother torn apart from them for 3 years before my older son petitioned for me to get my green card & i know God would not have wanted me to toss this son out into the streets because he is struggling with a terrible terrible disease. Like we are “supposed to marry for better or worse, in sickness & in health, this goes for our children too. Although ALANON & MANY OTHERS would have me kick him out into the streets to either die or IF he were strong enough to have gotten through all the trauma of our family history, survive. However, he is not strong enough…yet. He needs lots of therapy from the right people. This is why i stopped attending ALANON.

Hi madam I’m all the way from Fiji and just reading what you are going through, I’m happy I’m not alone after all, but after giving my life to JESUS I can now tell you that he really does exist, trust me when I say “I know exactly what you are going through”…I cannot chat too long as I’m at work, but please seek first the kingdom of God and everything will be added on, he will lighten the load that you are carrying, there is a reason for everything, someday God will give you just enough wisdom for you to understand why it happened.I hope that things get really better for you and God bless you.

      • Ron Peters says:

Louise, what an inspiration you are. You say that you have nothing but what you have is the ability to inspire. What you have can never be measured in terms of assets, or success or even whether your children have chosen the right path. You have gone through all that you have and yet you still have the ability to inspire . It is the greatest gift in the world and one that only you can take away. Stay the person you are because what a wonderful person you are. No wonder your family and friends say what they do because you truly are an inspiration

I just read your reply and it took a while to take in everything that you said. You have certainly been tested in your walk in life. Yet you sound so positive. I find it hard to imagine everything that you have been through. Your business, your husband, your son and then being locked out of the USA while visiting your family. Louise your son will come right. I know that I don’t need to say this as you have already said it but being there for him and giving him your love is the most important thing that you can do. The other is getting him away from the company that he is keeping. I also have had a similar scenario with one of my children and I was at my wits end. But prayer and love won out in the end. But that is not why I wanted to reply. I wanted to say that I am amazed at your strength. Your courage your ability to fight on through all the adversity. And this is while you are going through your own financial hardships. You are one amazing woman. You are a beacon and a light for those who have had their share of suffering. I just hope that others who have suffered similar hardship to you and read your story are inspired. I hope that the future only holds positive energy for you. I wish you every happiness.

Have you stopped to consider we all see things differently and for me the opposite of right isn’t wrong but left. I have no problems with the quote but I have a different interpretation influenced by my own favourite quotation.

” Watch your thoughts for they become words,
Choose your words for they become your actions.
Understand your actions for they become habits,
Study your habits for they become your character,
Develop your character for it becomes your destiny”

For me everybody’s destiny is determined by their thoughts, but I have absolutely no problem with anyone or everyone
interpreting things differently. The only advice I would give is a positive interpretation will have a positive impact on your
My second favourite is one of my own

  74. ItsMeJBird says:

Mildly infuriating that almost every quote is by a man. Apparently women aren’t very motivating or inspirational.

    • There are 12 different women represented on this list.

Being concerned with gender equality, I’m sure you’re well aware of the fact that women have just recently started to get the respect they deserve. Before the 20th century, in general, there was no such thing as women in politics, business, philosophy, sports, and other prominent positions (i.e. roles in which you’d be likely to get quoted).

With that said, it should come as no surprise that the majority of quotes on this list are from men. Our goal here was to collect quotes, not to ignore reality for the sake of being politically correct.

If you’d like to read more quotes from women, this list might help:

      • ItsMeJBird says:

Hey now, I’m not trying to get you all up in arms here… it’s just impossible to ignore that… I’m sorry… TWELVE women were represented out of your top hundred. Despite this, your response is a noble defense and it’s none of my business how you run this page. If I want to feel uplifted and inspired by women I’ll look elsewhere, simple as that.

        • Doug says:

When I hear a good quote, or read something inspirational, or find a good book, or watch a great movie, I don’t even consider whether it was said, written, directed, etc. by a man or a woman.

If it is good, it is good. If it was said by a man or a woman makes no difference.

I do find it disconcerting that you are counting. It is apparent that women are not excluded, they just are not sourced as often as “you would like.” Some of these quotes come from people (men) who have not been around for hundreds of years, and to be truthful, if you look back prior to the 20th century and you compare quotes that have been passed on from men vs. women, the men are going to outweigh the women. That isn’t right or wrong, it is just fact.

          • ItsMeJBird says:

Thanks for your feedback, Doug. It’s very similar to the reply from the site’s creator who was equally offended by my original comment. He was the one who clued me in on the number of women versus men on the site; I didn’t go through and count on my fingers. Yes, the point has been made time and again about male prominence in history, etc. Point noted. I’m not going to keep arguing about this because it’s just silly. I’ve moved on and found some really fabulous sites that have a wider variety of quotes from a wider variety of demographics.
