This quote is commonly attributed to American actor and comedian Danny Kaye. Even author James Patterson quoted Kaye’s “canvas” saying in his novel Sam’s Letters to Jennifer (2004). However, the original source of the quote is not known. The quote means that we should think of life as a giant art project, adding lots of color and creativity to make it as vibrant as possible.
