A. E. van Vogt
Alfred Elton van Vogt (1912–2000) was a Canadian-born science fiction writer who later became a U.S. citizen. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he began publishing professionally in the late 1930s and became a prominent figure in the Golden Age of science fiction, especially through stories for *Astounding Science-Fiction*. Van Vogt is known for fast-paced, idea-driven narratives and influential “fix-up” novels assembled from linked shorter works. His best-known books include *Slan* (1946) and *The World of Null-A* (1948), both exploring identity, power, and unconventional theories of mind. He spent much of his later life in California.
