Abraham Verghese

Abraham Verghese (born 1955) is an Ethiopian-born Indian-American physician, professor, and writer. He is a professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he has been associated with medical education and clinical practice. Verghese is known for combining medicine and storytelling in both fiction and nonfiction. His work includes the novel *Cutting for Stone* and the novel *The Covenant of Water*, as well as memoir and essay writing that reflects on patient care, diagnosis, and the human side of medicine. Across his career, he has built a reputation for vivid narrative and close attention to the doctor–patient relationship.
