Afeni Shakur
Afeni Shakur (1947–2016) was an American political activist and philanthropist. Born Alice Faye Williams, she became a prominent member of the Black Panther Party in New York and was part of the “Panther 21” group tried on conspiracy charges; she was acquitted in 1971. Later that year she gave birth to Tupac Shakur, who became one of the most influential rappers of his generation. After Tupac’s death, she helped preserve his legacy and supported charitable work through the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation. Shakur also worked in the music industry and spoke publicly about activism, family, and social justice.
