Agnes Repplier

Agnes Repplier (1855–1950) was an American essayist, literary critic, and biographer. Born in Philadelphia, she was educated largely at home and became known for polished, wide-ranging essays on literature, history, and culture. Repplier wrote for leading periodicals and built a reputation for wit, moral seriousness, and a classical sense of style. Her books include *Essays in Idleness* (1893), *Points of View* (1897), and *The Fireside Sphinx* (1901), as stated in bibliographies of her work. She also produced biographical and historical studies and remained a prominent voice in American letters into the early twentieth century.
