Albert Arnold Gore Jr. (born 1948) is an American politician and environmental advocate. He served as the 45th Vice President of the United States from 1993 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton, after representing Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives (1977–1985) and the U.S. Senate (1985–1993). Gore was the Democratic nominee for president in 2000. He is the author of *Earth in the Balance* (1992) and *An Inconvenient Truth* (2006), which helped bring global attention to climate change. In 2007, he shared the Nobel Peace Prize with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
