Aldous Huxley

Aldous Leonard Huxley (1894–1963) was an English novelist, essayist, and critic. Born in Godalming, Surrey, he came from a prominent intellectual family and studied at Balliol College, Oxford. He first gained notice with satirical novels such as *Crome Yellow* (1921), but is best known for the dystopian classic *Brave New World* (1932), a sharp critique of mass production, consumerism, and social control. Huxley later moved to the United States and wrote widely on ethics, science, education, and spirituality, including *The Perennial Philosophy* (1945) and *The Doors of Perception* (1954). He died in Los Angeles.
