Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin
Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799–1837) was a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist widely regarded as the founder of modern Russian literature. Born in Moscow, he studied at the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo and began publishing influential verse while still young. His writing fused European literary forms with Russian speech and folklore, shaping the language of later Russian prose and poetry. Pushkin’s major works include the verse novel *Eugene Onegin*, the drama *Boris Godunov*, and narrative poems such as *Ruslan and Lyudmila*. He died in Saint Petersburg after a duel with Georges d’Anthès.
