Alexandre Dumas

Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870), known as Alexandre Dumas père, was a French novelist and playwright. Born in Villers-Cotterêts, he moved to Paris and gained early success in the theater with historical dramas. He became one of the most widely read authors of the 19th century through serialized adventure novels that blended history, romance, and fast-paced plotting. His best-known works include *The Three Musketeers* (1844) and *The Count of Monte Cristo* (1844–1846), both originally published in installments. Dumas also wrote the *Valois Romances*, including *Queen Margot*. He died in 1870.
