Alexis Arguello

Alexis Argüello (1952–2009) was a Nicaraguan professional boxer, widely known by the nickname “The Explosive Thin Man.” Born in Managua, he became one of boxing’s most accomplished champions, winning world titles in three weight classes: featherweight, junior lightweight, and lightweight. Celebrated for his punching power and technical skill, Argüello fought many notable opponents and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. After retiring from boxing, he entered public life in Nicaragua and served as mayor of Managua. Argüello died in 2009. His legacy endures in both sport and Nicaraguan public memory.
