Alexis Herman
Alexis Margaret Herman (1947–2021) was an American public official and political adviser. She served as the 23rd U.S. Secretary of Labor from 1997 to 2001 in President Bill Clinton’s cabinet. Before joining the cabinet, Herman worked in Democratic politics and public service, including roles in the White House during the Clinton administration. As Labor Secretary, she oversaw federal labor policy and the Department of Labor’s work on employment standards, workplace safety, and job training programs. After leaving government, she remained active in civic and professional life, serving on corporate boards and in advisory capacities.
