Alfred de Musset
Alfred de Musset (1810–1857) was a French Romantic poet, playwright, and novelist. Born in Paris, he gained early attention with *Contes d’Espagne et d’Italie* (1829). His theatre includes *Lorenzaccio* (1834) and the comedy *On ne badine pas avec l’amour* (1834). Musset also wrote the novel *La Confession d’un enfant du siècle* (1836). His poetry collections include *Les Nuits* (1835–1837), a sequence of lyric poems. Elected to the Académie française in 1852, he remained a major voice of French Romanticism. He died in Paris in 1857.
