Alfred Noyes
Alfred Noyes (1880–1958) was an English poet known for narrative verse and for the poem “The Highwayman” (1906). Born in Wolverhampton, he was educated at Exeter College, Oxford, though he left without taking a degree. His early success came with *The Loom of Years* (1902), and he went on to publish widely, including the long poem *Drake* (1908). Noyes spent periods in the United States, teaching at Princeton University, and later lived in Europe. In later life he converted to Roman Catholicism and wrote religious and reflective poetry as well as essays. He died in Surrey, England.
