Alice Duer Miller

Alice Duer Miller (1874–1942) was an American poet, novelist, and journalist best known for her satirical verse supporting women’s suffrage. Born in Staten Island, New York, she studied at Barnard College. Miller wrote widely for magazines and newspapers, including a long association with the *New York Tribune*, where her pointed, humorous poems addressed politics and social issues. Her suffrage pieces were collected in *Are Women People?* (1915), a popular volume that skewered anti-suffrage arguments through irony and wit. She also published novels and poetry, and later wrote screenplays in Hollywood. Miller died in New York City in 1942.
