Allen Saunders

Allen Saunders (1906–1980) was an American writer and journalist best known for his long association with the newspaper comic strip *Mary Worth*. He wrote the strip for decades, helping shape its domestic, character-driven storytelling for a wide readership. Saunders is also frequently linked to the saying “Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans,” though the attribution is disputed and the line has been credited to other sources as well. Beyond comics, he worked in newspaper writing and editing, building a career in popular American print culture during the mid‑20th century.
