Anaïs Nin

Anaïs Nin was born to artistic parents in Neuilly, France. After her parents separated, Nin moved with her mother and two brothers to Barcelona and then New York City, where she quit school and started working as an artist’s model. Nin married her first husband, Hugh Parker Guiler, in 1923 in Havana, Cuba and the couple moved to Paris the next year. In the 1930s, Nin famously had an affair with the writer Henry Miller, which is described in her diaries, Vol.1, 1931–1934. Still married to Guiler, Nin later married Rupert Pole, whom she remained with until her death in 1977. In addition to her diaries, Nin is known for her erotica, novels, essays, and short stories.
