André Gide
André Gide (1869–1951) was a French author and critic whose work helped shape modern French literature. Born in Paris, he co-founded the influential literary journal *La Nouvelle Revue Française* and wrote novels, essays, and autobiographical works noted for psychological insight and moral inquiry. Among his best-known books are *The Immoralist*, *Strait Is the Gate*, and *The Counterfeiters*. Gide also published travel writing and political commentary, including *Return from the U.S.S.R.*, reflecting his evolving views on communism.
