Andy Rooney

Andrew Aitken Rooney (1919–2011) was an American radio and television writer and commentator. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes. After the war he wrote for radio and television, including work with CBS. Rooney became widely known for his short, opinionated essays on CBS’s newsmagazine 60 Minutes, where his commentaries aired for decades and helped define the program’s tone. He also wrote books and newspaper columns drawn from his observations on everyday language, habits, and public life. Rooney died in 2011.
