Andy Warhol (1928–1987) was an American visual artist and a leading figure in the Pop Art movement. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he moved to New York City, where he worked as a commercial illustrator before gaining fame in the 1960s. Warhol became known for works that drew on mass media and consumer culture, including his Campbell’s Soup Cans and portraits of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe.
