Ani DiFranco

Ani DiFranco (born September 23, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter, poet, and activist known for fiercely independent work that blends folk, rock, and punk influences. Raised in Buffalo, New York, she began performing as a teenager and founded the independent label Righteous Babe Records in 1990, helping pioneer a DIY model for releasing and touring music. DiFranco has released a large body of albums and has also published writing, including poetry and memoir. Her songs often address politics, feminism, and social justice, and she has been recognized with major honors, including a Grammy Award.
