Anita Roddick
Anita Roddick (1942–2007) was a British entrepreneur, author, and activist best known as the founder of The Body Shop. She opened the first Body Shop store in Brighton, England, in 1976, building the company around principles of ethical sourcing and opposition to animal testing. Roddick used the brand’s global reach to campaign on issues including human rights, environmental protection, and fair trade, and she became a prominent voice for corporate social responsibility. She wrote several books about business and activism, including *Body and Soul* and *Business as Unusual*. Roddick was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2003.
