Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor (1782–1866) was an English poet and children’s writer associated with early nineteenth-century devotional and moral verse for the young. Born in London, she wrote in collaboration with her sister Jane Taylor, and their work was published in influential collections for children. Taylor is often linked with the lyrics of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” though the words were first published anonymously in *Rhymes for the Nursery* (1806). She also wrote the poem “My Mother,” remembered for its affectionate portrayal of maternal care. Taylor’s writing reflects the period’s emphasis on piety, instruction, and simple, memorable language for child readers.
