Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Anne Morrow Lindbergh was born in 1906 in Englewood, New Jersey. Anne’s mother encouraged achievement and taught Anne and her siblings to read at a young age. Anne attended The Chapin School and Smith College, where she received awards for writing. In 1929, she married the aviator Charles Lindbergh, and she soon after became an aviator herself, becoming the first American woman to earn a first-class glider pilot’s license. In 1932, the Lindberghs’ first child, Charles, was kidnapped and murdered. Later in her life, Anne would write several influential books, including Gift from the Sea (1955), an important book in feminist literature. She died in 2001 at age 94.
