Antonio Porchia
Antonio Porchia (1885–1968) was an Italian-born Argentine writer best known for his aphorisms. Born in Italy in 1885, he later lived in Argentina, where he wrote in Spanish and became associated with a spare, philosophical style. His reputation rests chiefly on *Voces* (*Voices*), a book of brief, paradoxical reflections that has been widely read and translated. Porchia’s aphorisms often explore solitude, self-knowledge, and the limits of language, using simple diction to reach unsettling conclusions. He died in 1968, leaving a small body of work whose influence has outlasted its size.
