Arthur Guiterman
Arthur Guiterman (1871–1943) was an American poet and humorist best known for light verse, epigrams, and witty occasional poems. Born in Vienna, Austria, he was raised in the United States and educated at the University of Rochester. He worked in the insurance business while building a wide readership through newspapers and magazines, where his rhymed commentary on history, manners, and everyday life became popular. Guiterman published numerous collections, including *The Laughing Philosopher*, and his poems were frequently anthologized for their polished meter and genial satire. He died in New York City in 1943.
