Barbara Bush

Barbara Pierce Bush (1925–2018) was an American public figure who served as First Lady of the United States from 1989 to 1993, during the presidency of George H. W. Bush. Born in New York City and raised in Rye, New York, she married George H. W. Bush in 1945 and became the mother of six children, including future president George W. Bush. As First Lady, she championed literacy and family-focused causes, helping to found the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. She also wrote memoirs, including *Barbara Bush: A Memoir* (1994), reflecting on her life in public service.
