Bella Abzug
Bella Abzug (1920–1998) was an American lawyer, politician, and activist known for her outspoken advocacy of civil rights, peace, and women’s equality. Born in the Bronx, New York City, she earned degrees from Hunter College and Columbia Law School and worked as a labor lawyer. Abzug helped found Women Strike for Peace and became a prominent figure in antiwar organizing. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1970, she served New York from 1971 to 1977, championing issues such as gender equity, government accountability, and social welfare.
