Benjamin Graham
Benjamin Graham (1894–1976) was a British-born American economist, investor, and author widely regarded as the father of value investing. Born in London, he moved to the United States as a child and later studied at Columbia University. Graham taught at Columbia and developed an influential approach to investing based on careful analysis, a “margin of safety,” and buying securities for less than their intrinsic value. He coauthored *Security Analysis* (1934) with David Dodd, a foundational text in financial analysis, and wrote *The Intelligent Investor* (1949), a classic guide for individual investors. His ideas shaped generations of investors, including Warren Buffett.
