Bernard Manning

Bernard Manning (1930–2007) was an English comedian and nightclub entertainer associated with working-class stand-up and the northern club circuit. Born in Manchester, he became widely known through live performances and television appearances, and he later ran the Embassy Club in Manchester. Manning’s act relied on blunt, confrontational delivery and audience interaction, and it attracted both popularity and sustained criticism. He was frequently accused of using racist and sexist material, and his comedy remains controversial. Although not primarily a literary author, his public persona and routines made him a notable figure in late-20th-century British entertainment. He died in 2007.
