Bertrand Barère de Vieuzac

Bertrand Barère de Vieuzac (1755–1841) was a French politician and journalist who played a prominent role during the French Revolution. Elected to the National Convention in 1792, he voted for the execution of Louis XVI and became an influential speaker, known for delivering reports and speeches on behalf of revolutionary committees. In 1793 he joined the Committee of Public Safety, where he helped shape policy during the period commonly called the Terror. After the fall of Robespierre in 1794, Barère was arrested and later deported. He returned to France under Napoleon and lived through subsequent regime changes, dying in 1841.
