Bonnie Bassler
Bonnie L. Bassler is an American molecular biologist and professor at Princeton University. She is widely known for pioneering research on bacterial quorum sensing, the process by which bacteria communicate using chemical signals to coordinate group behaviors. Bassler’s work has helped reveal how microbes regulate activities such as bioluminescence, virulence, and biofilm formation, and it has influenced efforts to develop new strategies for controlling bacterial infections. She has also been a prominent scientific communicator, explaining microbial communication to broad audiences through lectures and public talks. Bassler earned her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Johns Hopkins University and conducted postdoctoral research before joining Princeton’s faculty.
