Boutros Boutros-Ghali
Boutros Boutros-Ghali (1922–2016) was an Egyptian diplomat, scholar, and international civil servant who became the sixth Secretary-General of the United Nations, serving from 1992 to 1996. Born in Cairo, he studied law and political science and later taught and wrote on international relations and diplomacy. Before leading the UN, he held senior roles in Egypt’s foreign policy establishment, including serving as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and was involved in Middle East peace efforts. As Secretary-General, he advanced a post–Cold War agenda for conflict prevention, peacekeeping, and development, notably outlined in his report *An Agenda for Peace*.
