Bunker Roy
Sanjit “Bunker” Roy (born 1945) is an Indian social activist and educator best known as the founder of Barefoot College, a community-based organization established in 1972 in Tilonia, Rajasthan. After studying at St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, he worked with rural communities and helped develop practical training programs focused on self-reliance. Barefoot College is known for teaching skills such as solar engineering, water management, and handicrafts, often by training local villagers, including women, to become trainers and technicians. Roy has received international recognition for his work, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award (1986).
