C. E. Cowman

Charles E. Cowman (1868–1924) was an American Christian missionary and co-founder of the Oriental Missionary Society (OMS). With his wife, Lettie B. Cowman, he helped establish the organization to support evangelistic and missionary work in East Asia, particularly in Japan. Cowman served in leadership roles within OMS and was involved in organizing missions, training workers, and promoting the society’s outreach in the early twentieth century. He is often mentioned in connection with devotional literature because Lettie B. Cowman later compiled the widely read devotional *Streams in the Desert*, drawing on their shared missionary experience and spiritual outlook.
