C. S. Lewis
Clive Staples Lewis was born and grew up in Belfast, Ireland. As a boy, he was fascinated by animals and books. Lewis was awarded a scholarship to Oxford, where he studied English, Philosophy, and Ancient Studies. He was elected a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Magdalen College, Oxford, and served there for 29 years. While an English professor at Oxford, Lewis wrote a number of books, including the wildly successful Chronicles of Narnia books and other fiction, academic works, and nonfiction Christian books. Lewis died of renal failure at age 65, though his death was overshadowed by that of JFK, which occurred on the same day.
