Carl Gustav Jung
Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. Born in Kesswil, Switzerland, he studied medicine at the University of Basel and trained in psychiatry at the Burghölzli clinic in Zurich under Eugen Bleuler. Jung became an early collaborator of Sigmund Freud and served as the first president of the International Psychoanalytical Association, before breaking with Freud and developing his own approach. His work explored concepts such as the collective unconscious, archetypes, psychological types, and individuation. Jung wrote influential books including *Psychological Types* and *Symbols of Transformation*, and practiced in Küsnacht near Zurich.
