Carlos Fuentes

Carlos Fuentes (1928–2012) was a Mexican novelist and essayist, widely regarded as a leading figure of the Latin American Boom. Born in Panama City, he was raised in several countries because his father was a Mexican diplomat, an experience that shaped his international outlook. Fuentes studied law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and later at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. His fiction blends history, politics, and experimentation, notably in *The Death of Artemio Cruz* (1962), *Aura* (1962), and the ambitious *Terra Nostra* (1975). He also served Mexico as a diplomat, including as ambassador to France.
