Cathy Guisewite

Cathy Guisewite (born June 22, 1950) is an American cartoonist best known for creating the syndicated comic strip *Cathy*. Launched in 1976, the strip ran until 2010 and followed its title character through everyday anxieties about food, love, work, and self-image. Guisewite’s work became a widely recognized touchstone of late-20th-century popular culture, and she expanded the strip’s themes through books and other writing. She has also written about the creative process and the pressures facing contemporary women, drawing on the humor and candor that defined *Cathy* for decades.
