Charles A. Lindbergh

Charles Augustus Lindbergh (1902–1974) was an American aviator and author. In 1927 he piloted the Spirit of St. Louis on the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight, traveling from New York to Paris and becoming an international celebrity. Trained as a pilot and engineer, he later worked in aviation development and served as a consultant on aircraft and navigation. Lindbergh also wrote about flight and its meaning, most notably in his memoir *The Spirit of St. Louis*, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography. His later life included public service and writing on technology and the natural world.
