Charles H. Spurgeon
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834–1892) was an English Particular Baptist preacher and Christian author. Born in Kelvedon, Essex, he rose to prominence in London as pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle (originally New Park Street Chapel), where his sermons drew large crowds and were widely published. Spurgeon preached a Calvinistic evangelical theology and became one of the best-known preachers of the Victorian era, often called the “Prince of Preachers.” He founded a pastors’ college (later Spurgeon’s College) and supported extensive charitable work, including an orphanage. A prolific writer, he produced devotional works and sermon collections that remain influential.
