Charles Péguy
Charles Péguy (1873–1914) was a French poet, essayist, and political writer. Born in Orléans, he studied at the École Normale Supérieure and became active in public debates of his time. In 1900 he founded the journal *Cahiers de la Quinzaine*, which he edited and used as a platform for literature, criticism, and political commentary. His writing often combined lyric intensity with moral and civic concerns. Among his best-known works is *Le Mystère de la charité de Jeanne d’Arc* (1910), a dramatic poem centered on Joan of Arc. Péguy was killed in 1914 during World War I, at the Battle of the Marne.
