Charles Reznikoff

Charles Reznikoff (1894–1976) was an American poet and a key figure in the Objectivist movement. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Jewish immigrant parents, he studied at the College of the City of New York and later earned a law degree from New York University. Reznikoff’s writing is noted for its plain diction, careful observation, and documentary method. His major works include *Testimony*, drawn from American court records, and *Holocaust*, composed from accounts of Nazi persecution. He also wrote the long poem *By the Waters of Manhattan* and co-founded the Objectivist press that published *Objectivist Press* titles.
