Christopher Darlington Morley

Christopher Darlington Morley (1890–1957) was an American novelist, essayist, journalist, and poet. Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, he was educated at Haverford College and as a Rhodes Scholar at New College, Oxford. Morley wrote widely for magazines and newspapers and became known for his witty, bookish style and his celebration of reading. His best-known novels include *Parnassus on Wheels* (1917) and *Kitty Foyle* (1939), the latter winning the National Book Award. A devoted Sherlock Holmes enthusiast, he helped found the Baker Street Irregulars in 1934. He died in Roslyn Harbor, New York.
